Filter Retrofit

Filter Retrofit

AG Industries developed a unique solution to retrofit a single interchangeable filter into two separate devices.

Background:

A single HEPA filtration device and a bacterial filtration device are needed to connect securely into two separate radioaerosol delivery devices. These devices are used in pulmonary imaging studies for nuclear medicine applications. The filters are essential to protect the patient from contamination and to safeguard the study environment from radioactive exhaled particulate.

Challenge:

AG Industries was contacted to deliver an adaptable universal filter device that would have the ability to fit into two separate environments. Additionally, the customer needed both a bacteria filter and a HEPA filter. A custom filter was needed to cut costs, improve efficiency and aesthetics and brand the company's new device.

Solution:

Through extensive prototyping, testing, and modeling, AG Industries developed a unique design that uses a single injection-molding tool with interchangeable inserts, a spin seal process or sonic welding and interchangeable filter inserts. By creating an intricate tool design initially, we can produce each of the three versions of the filter with simple tool insert changes that can be done quickly during mold set-up.

Results:

This satisfied the customer's needs for the project-low capital investment, an interchangeable/flexible device, and a single/universal look for each of their mechanisms.
